Carry on buses - classic London models to parade across Epping Forest this weekend

Two iconic London buses known for their service across city will be the star attractions at Epping Ongar Railway this weekend.

An RT double decker and a RF single decker were familiar sites to east London residents post World War Two.

The RT ran from 1947 until 1979, while the RF first entered service in 1951 before being withdrawn a week before the RT types were introduced.

Roger Wright, managing director and event organizer of Epping Ongar Railway, said: “I’ve worked with buses all my life and believe that this is will be one of the biggest line-ups of such vehicles ever seen.

“The cavalcade is quite possibly the largest ever attempted. The enthusiasm of the volun-teers who have worked to bring this together will be paid off when this happens.”

In celebration of their exclusive visit, the buses will be operating services to and from Chingford, Waltham Abbey, Loughton, High Beach and Harlow.

Later in the day, approximately 30 of these green vehicles will take part in a procession across the district, an excellent photo opportunity for keen photographers.

A bespoke RF will be parked at North Weald station, that was used as a prototype for a coach modernization programme in the late 1960’s.

Dean Walton, acting general manager said, “The Green Line bus running day in February attracted a record number of people to the Railway and with the range of buses, routes, the cavalcade and RF136 on Sunday we are hoping for a repeat. Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.”

The RT and RF Celebration event will take place on Sunday, September 8, at North Weald Station.
