Sutton artist's work displayed at hospital where she receives treatment

A Sutton artist's work is set to go on display at the Chelsea hospital where she has received treatment for the last 15 years.

Diana Tapping, who suffers from a lung condition which causes breathing difficulties, has been a patient at Royal Brompton Hospital since 2014, under the care of the respiratory department.

In her second solo exhibition at the hospital, Diana is displaying a collection of paintings sharing her experience of being in nature, which began with a series of walking drawings.

Diana said: “To me, painting is an exploratory journey. My work is subject to continual change, driven by what happens when the paint is applied to the canvas.

"I do not have a preconceived idea of how the painting will look – as soon as I make the mark, or place the colour, then the painting has its own life and makes its own demands.

"I find that walking in nature helps both my physical and mental wellbeing, I am moving my body and keeping active while also appreciating the beauty of the natural environment around me.”

The exhibition is open daily 9am – 8pm in the cafe exhibition space, located on the ground floor of the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Works are for sale with proceeds split between the artist and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity.
