Two new plays featuring unique voices are coming to artsdepot this autumn.
Black is the Colour of My Voice opened in 2014 in Edinburgh, and was performed to great critical and public acclaim in the West End, Edinburgh, New York, and Shanghai and most recently at London’s The Vaults, garnering five-star reviews. The performance at artsdepot is part of Apphia Campbell’s UK tour paying tribute to Nina Simone’s phenomenal career.
The Fringe First Award-winning Square Go from Kieran Hurley and Gary McNair tells the story of Max, a normal-ish kid in a normal-ish town. He spends his days daydreaming and hanging out with his weird wee pal Stevie Nimmo. But when Max is called for a ‘square go’, a fight by the school gates, he must wrestle with his own demons first.
Featuring an original soundtrack by members of Frightened Rabbit and set in a boxing ring, Square Go is a raucous, hilarious play about playground violence, myths of masculinity and the decision to step up or run. After a sell-out at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe and an off-Broadway premiere in Summer 2019, Square Go is on a UK tour and comes to artsdepot on Saturday, October 12, at 7.30pm.
