New temporary accommodation and supported living flats for Perry Vale

Plans for 32 new temporary accommodation flats in Perry Vale have been submitted, with six of the homes to be used by residents with learning difficulties - aided by nearly £1 million in NHS funding.

Lewisham Council has submitted the plans which will see a disused warehouse demolished on Mayow Road to make way for the new six and seven storey buildings.

The temporary accommodation flats for homeless families will have two or three bedrooms.

The authority houses 600 local families in expensive nightly paid accommodation, with 2,000 families in temporary accommodation across the borough, a council spokesman said.

The six supported living flats will help adults live independently where they will have around the clock support and care, they said.

The tenants will also have access to their own garden.

The supported living flats are part of the NHS Transforming Care programme, and will see £900,000 in NHS funding, a council report said.

Cllr Paul Bell, cabinet member for housing, said it was a “landmark scheme”.

“It is a joint collaboration with the NHS, aiming to create socially integrated accommodation which will cater to both homeless families and to residents with learning difficulties and/or autism,” he said.

“These homes reflect our determination to deliver on making a difference for our residents by building and enabling new places to call home.”

A new special educational needs school is also planned opposite the site.

The development is expected to be approved by the council's planning department in November.

Work on the site is expected to start in March 2020, with completion expected in autumn 2021.
